One year after launch, the website was widened |
Project Summary: The Sporthorse Directory is an annual printed publication consisting of elaborate sport horse stallion ads. The owner of the publication had an existing classifieds website for horses for sale. However, she did not have a website for stallions at stud. As well, the classifieds website needed to be updated. She wanted a website that could double as an online addition to her print publication as well as a way to collect the data and images necessary for the publication designers. She also wanted to offer a variety of other aspects to the site to keep visitors coming back. The website has a breeder and trainer directory, an article section, an events section, a online forum, a foal gallery, a product and service directory and a store. The website also has a custom banner ad system.
The website has an user login and account area as well as an extensive admin panel. The users can buy ad credits to use for stallion ads. They can post and edit stallions and directory ads. They can also save ads for future viewing. All of the ads are renewable. The admin is able to administer the content on the index page, update banner ads, approve all ads posted, edit users' accounts and ad credits, and download images and information for the print publication.
When we first started work on the design, we had a large amount of layout work to accomplish. There are numerous links in the site and content areas. The photoshop file for the design of this template had an extensive array of layers. After we had finished the template and started working on the programming, the client decided she wanted to brand the website with her publication. She opted to order a second design for the website. We went with a much darker design that had the feel of the print publication. The launch of TheSporthorse.com was a great success. The client had a full publication and a large number of stallions advertised on her website.
This past summer of 2008, the client decided to incorporate the classifieds section into the existing stallion and directory website. We built the classifieds from scratch and incorporated it into the existing flow, account areas and admin area of the stallion website. As well, the client wanted to widen the site. This was completed late Fall 2008. The print publication for 2008 ended up being an even bigger success than in 2007.
